The floating floor, made by this technology, looks equally impressive in offices, residential apartments and commercial premises. The decor of this flooring is executed in any color and with drawing of various drawings. This allows designers to implement the most unimaginable solutions.
Filling liquid floating 3d floors are installed in several stages. They must be performed in strict order:
- In the beginning, as in any other options for laying the floor covering, the surface of the base is prepared.
- Then a base layer of polymer self-leveling material is applied to it.

- After that, a transparent polymer is poured in order to fix the decorative layer.
- The final stage is the application of a wear-resistant protective film.

Where to begin?
The installation of floating floors according to the principle of operation is comparable with the filling of conventional leveling coatings. Only here are their nuances, which in the first place require careful preparation of the surface. This must be taken into account immediately. An important stage in the preparation for work will be the organization of ventilation in the room. This is necessary because the polymers used to fill the decorative layer are very toxic, and a normal respirator will not help here.
If we talk about prohibitions, it is impossible to lay this coating in an unheated room, when the temperature inside is below +10 degrees.
Preparing the flooring surface
This is the first and most important stage. Here, as in any other variants of the liquid floor device, the main attention is paid to the base on which the three-dimensional floating floor will be laid. The range of work is determined by location. The base is cleaned of dirt and dust, all old coatings and plinths are dismantled. It is also necessary to “tap out” the surface for the presence of hidden voids, and if there are such, open them and seal them.
If laying 3d floors is done in a room with a relatively high humidity, then it is necessary to lay the waterproofing. Then, on top of it, an equalizing layer is poured in the form of a concrete screed.
When the substrate has dried, you need to remove all debris from its surface. The cracked cracks should be sealed with cement or a mixture that was used for leveling. Remember – any splinters or detritus of the concrete screed will subsequently lead to cracking of the decorative coating, and all work on pouring the floor will go to waste. We will have to dismantle everything and begin again.

Different materials have their own terms of solidification. Some people have 3 days, others need at least a month. They also stand in different ways.
The base has dried up, and now it needs to be primed to ensure better adhesion of the polymer layer to the concrete. Apply the mixture in several layers with a roller or a wide brush. After this, also soak the surface for at least 2 days until completely dry.
Polymer filling for leveling floors
This is the most important stage in the process of laying the 3D coating. From the correctness of its execution, the quality of the installation of the decorative layer will depend. Polymeric compositions are used as a basis, the performance characteristics of which are most suitable for applying a decorative pattern on them. Simply put, after hardening, these formulations form an ideally flat surface.
If natural materials are used to create a picture, then the base layer will play the role of a background. Therefore, you need to take the most careful consideration of the process of its laying and choosing a shade.
Materials, which are based on polymers, are applied directly to the floor screed. For this, the transparent composition is mixed with the solvent in a 2: 1 ratio. Only be sure to use a construction mixer or the same nozzle on the drill to make a mass of a uniform consistency.
The finished composition is poured onto the surface and leveled with a needle roller or rule to remove air from the coating thickness. Then you need to close the room and wait for the surface to polymerize.
After the final drying (no earlier than 3 days, if specialized mixtures are used), the frozen polymer layer is thoroughly grinded with a special machine. If you can not find such a device, it is recommended to use a grinder with special grinding wheels. But in this case, the grinding process will take much longer.
Creating an additional decor is always the most interesting and exciting moment. If you use additional decorating with shells or, for example, dry leaves, then you need to do this 24 hours after filling the polymer compounds. If there is no such plan, then we wait at least a week to dry up completely.
Two options for drawing a picture
After drying, the surface is decorated to create what the actual 3d engineered flooring actually is.
You can do this in two ways:
- Drawing of ornaments with acrylic paints.
- Use of photographs or finished drawings.
The first option is slightly more advantageous in terms that the paint can last on the surface as much as the coating itself, without burning off the ultraviolet. More common and cheaper in performance technology is the use of the finished image. To do this, you need to select a suitable pattern that corresponds to the general style of the room. Then process it on the graphics editor, adjusting the pixels to the size of the room, stretching the size, adjusting and, if necessary, adding extra brightness and contrast. After that, the finished material is printed on a special thick carrier.
For drawing on a decorative substrate, banner or vinyl fabric is used today, and the image is applied using thermal printing technology. And the main expense item when pouring 3D floating floors is precisely the production of a pattern for decorating the surface.
Drawing a picture on the base cover
If you use an image on a self-adhesive film, then gently lay it on a clean surface. Make sure that air bubbles do not form under it. Carefully smooth each inch with a special plastic spatula or a soft cloth.

In the same way, the banner sheet is also laid. But only in this case the surface of the substrate should be slightly moistened with water. For such work any sprayer from a screen wiper or a garden sprayer for large areas is suitable.
Pouring a transparent polymer
An important point is that the pouring is done in parts, and a layer of polymer with a height of at least 3 mm should be applied to the image. At this thickness, about 4 kilograms of the mixture are needed to process one square meter of the substrate.
After calculating the required amount on the entire surface, prepare a clean dish and mix the mixer with a mixer or drill with a nozzle to the consistency of the liquid glue.
Pour the resulting composition onto the surface. Do it better in small portions, leveling with a needle roller or rule. Care should be taken to ensure that there is no air left in the thickness. Roll the surface with a roller until the polymer begins to thicken. The fluidity can last from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the manufacturer.
Pay attention that you can move around the room, filled with polymer, in special shoes with spikes on the sole – paint dashes. To increase the strength of the filling floor, cover the surface for the time of setting the polymer with a polyethylene film. It takes 3-4 days for the mixture to solidify, after which the film can be removed.
The time for the complete curing of the polymer depends on the thickness of the layer and the brand of the components used. On average, this period varies from 10 to 30 days.
Application of a protective layer
To give the decorative layer additional protection against mechanical and chemical damage, as well as significantly increase the life of the application can be by applying special protective varnishes.
